Newbie Writers: I See You

Newbie writers: I see you.

I remember the time when paying my rent and bills felt like a major success. I remember when I was obsessing over the number of cold-emails I sent and the number of responses I received. I remember crying over any rejection. I remember questioning my self-worth. I remember feeling a sense of urgency and needing to succeed yesterday. I remember the time when I felt like okay if I just start making $2K a month, it will be huge, and enough for life. I remember feeling alone without support from those around me. I remember feeling like all those "successful freelancers" online were out of touch and didn't understand my reality.

I see you. And I promise, it will get better.

Things that feel like 'no big deal now' were once consuming my entire life. Whatever you are struggling with, whatever your current reality is: it IS a big deal...

The steps to success are simple. Not always easy, definitely not quick, but simple. And honestly, listening to the advice of freelancers ahead of you can save you a lot of time and trouble.

But it is also important that you go through these hurdles yourself: the fear of those first cold-emails, your first client calls, the first rejections, imposter syndrome, figuring out the admin side of things, dealing with anxiety, and so on. Going through these things WILL make you stronger.

And don't give up. Freelance writing is not a quick-fix, get-rich scam. It is a long-term game that requires consistency, persistence, commitment, trial and error, challenging yourself, learning, and hopefully, a lot of passion and fun.

I promise, you will look back in a year, two years, five years, and smile "Aww, that was so cute that I was obsessing over that." You will thank yourself for not giving up. You will smile looking at your accomplishments.

I originally posted this in a Facebook group and on Linkedin, but I wanted to share it here too.
